Invocation from Post Chaplain Chris Marshall
MSP to suspend with normal business and move directly to the Wilmer’s Park Report.
Reports: 1st V. Cmdr Turner stated the Post has received the paperwork we have to
complete to finish processing the $100,000 bond the State has approved for the Post. The
County Attorney is still working on their matching funds, which will come in two parts –
$50,000 this year and $50,000 next year.
Post Project Manager for Wilmer’s Park, Darryl Morgan, will meet with 1st V. Cmdr Turner
tomorrow (June 21) at 10:00am to start the process to get a bridge loan to start building the
Annex. Any Post member is invited to attend. 1st V. Cmdr Turner went into details and
showed the plans for the Annex, including walking around the plot where the Annex will be
built. He projects 2-4 months for the project to be complete and operational. Several
members asked questions about the interior layout (a proposed floor plan was presented),
the building manufacturing style, permits issues, the bridge loan, and others, to which 1st V.
Cmdr Turner and Mr. Morgan answered.
Second Vice Commander Tyrone Eugene is working on a list of things with the Parks &
Planning Commission (P&P) on what our responsibilities and their responsibilities will be.
The traffic pattern on highway 381 is an issue we have to add to our responsibilities. The
Post is still pushing for a temporary lease from P&P so we can start getting grants, investors,
and architecture started for Wilmer’s Park, with a permanent lease coming when all the
details have been resolved. 2nd V. Cmdr Eugene expects to get this list completed within a
week after meeting with our CPA, Reggie Pearman.
The Finance report was given by Adjutant Erle Ross. No action taken on approving it.
Old Business: The Department Convention begins July 12 in Ocean City, MD, with the Legion
College on Tuesday morning. Adj Ross and Service Officer Marrie Nunn intend on attending
the College.
Svc Off Nunn asked if the Post’s motorcycle club would be interested in affiliating with a
group she’s met. 1st V. Cmdr Turner referred her to Sgt-at-Arms Dan Dorrance or Post
Commander Ron Fisher.
New Business: Anita Neal Powell asked the Post to support their 2016 Maryland State
Conference, NAACP’s Annual Family and Friend’s Day Summer Festival on Saturday, August
20, from noon to 5pm. They will meet at the same place as last year, the Talbot Agriculture
& Education Center, Easton, MD 21601. Last year we provided our Moon Bounce and Slide,
and intend to do the same this year. Cmdr Fisher is asking for volunteers that day to run
these attractions.
Adjourn: MSP to adjourn.
Benediction was given by Chaplain Marshall.
Next meeting will be Monday, July 18, at 7:30pm, at Post 381 HQ, 14313 Brandywine Heights Road, Brandywine, Maryland.
Meeting adjourned at 8:36pm.
Respectfully submitted;
Erle Ross Ronald F. Fisher
