The American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381 membership meeting opened at 7:30 pm at the Post Annex, 9413 Midland Turn, Upper Marlboro, MD by Post First Commander Henry Turner.

A quorum being met by the following members in attendance or excused absences:

The Prince George's County Council (PGCC) annual Post Inspection that was scheduled was cancelled by the PGCC Commander on short notice.  No other business items were on the agenda; MSP to forgo the opening and closing ceremonies.

Minutes from the previous meeting was presented and approved.    

Next meeting will be Virtual, calling either Commander Ron Fisher or Adjutant Erle Ross no later than Monday, November 19, at 7:30 pm.  Please correct and/or approve these minutes when you call in.

The following meeting is schedule for Monday, December 17, at 7:30 pm at the Post 381 Annex, 9413 Midland Turn, Upper Marlboro, MD.

Due to the nature of the meeting, normal opening ceremonies have been suspended.

Reports:

·         Post 381 Financials were read and approved.
·         Gamming Financials were read and MSP to accept report subject to audit.

Old Business: 

  • 3rd Vice Tyrone Eugene and Adjutant Erle Ross met with Ricardo to go over building annex floor plans and revised permit plans.  Ricardo will get a surveyor to assess property.
    • Cmd. Fisher, 3rd Vice Tyrone and Lynda Hart will review kitchen at NY Deli for ideas for our building annex kitchen.
  • Wilmar's Parking still moving forward, more information to follow next month.

New Business:
  • Motion was carried and approved to donated $400 to the Jimmy Garvin Legacy Fall Golf Tournament.
  • 50/50 Drawing - Cmd. Fisher asked Lynda Hart to chair committee to determine local Non Procharities for the 50/50 Drawing. Asst. Adjutant Miller and Chaplin Marshall will be apart of the 50/50 Drawing Committee.
    • Winner for this month 50/50 Drawing - Vann Jones - Charity winner - Jimmy Garvin Legacy Foundation.

Swearing In:
·         Cmd. Fisher swore in Matt Reichers as the new Judge Advocate (J.A.) for American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381 – Congratulations Matt!
Reports:

·         Post 381 Financials were read and approved.
·         Annex Financials were read and approved.
o   1st Vice Commander Henry Turner to start paperwork for monies to finish the 50 x 60 building project.

New Business: 

·         NAACP Local, State and National were having a golf tournament but due to weather, the tournament was postponed to a future date.  Cmd. Fisher will ask the NAACP to reschedule their tournament at the Marlton Golf Course as a partnership with Marlton and American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381.  1st Vice Turner and Post Member Lynda Hart both agreed with comments.
·         Paint was donated by Home Depot in efforts to paint strips on the Marlton’s parking lot. Motion was carried and approved to write a check from The American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381s account in the amount of $200 to paint.
o   1st Vice Turner noted Sept. 21 and 22 isn’t available for painting due to an event already scheduled.
·         Wilmar’s Park: The Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) and the Historical Preservation Committee are evaluating Park and Planning and Post 381’s paperwork. 
o   J.A. Reichers gave an update of the conversation with the Historical Preservation Committee to put in a pistol and archery range in our lease. Also, we have permission from Park and Planning to hunt with bows only.
o   Motion was carried and approved to ask MEDCO to include turkey shoot and rifle range.  Also, J.A. Reichers will find out if adding the turkey shoot and pistol range will slow the process down.  If this will slow down the process, he will not ask.
·         The Historical Preservation Committee is asking for a report on the one-year anniversary of the progress of Wilmar’s Park and Post 381.
·         On Thursday, August 23, 2018 Mr. Evan Money will put monies into American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381’s account for the use of Wilmar’s Park.  Cmd. Fisher will postpone this meeting until Finance Officer Pam Neal-Robinson is back in town, August 30 or later.
·         Chaplain Marshall will go to Air Ground Tech School in May 2019 for 6 months - Congratulations Chris!

The American Legion Warffemius-Seidler Post 381 membership meeting opened at 7:41 pm
at Post 381 Annex at the Marlton Golf Club, 9413 Midturn Lane, Upper Marlton, MD 20772, by Commander Ronald Fisher.

Chaplain Chris Marshall presented the invocation.

Introductions: Our newest member, Winnie Moore, was introduced. Guest Alfanso Malone was introduced.

Minutes: The minutes from last month were read and one correction made. MSP to approve.

Reports:
Financial Report: Commander Ronald Fisher gave the Post 381 financial report. There are two bank accounts to consider – the primary checking account, and a new account required by the Lottery Commission to operate the ILTM (Instant Lottery Ticket Machine). The invoices arrived for the Post to pay the annual dues to the Prince George’s County Council and the Southern Maryland District Council and were paid. MSP to accept.
A local church has indicated a desire to donate to the Post for using the Moon Bounce.
An anonymous donor will allow the Post to pay the balance to the electrician who installed the electrical outlets in the Marlton Golf Club’s clubhouse for use by the Post’s ITLMs.

Commander’s Report: Cmdr Fisher made us aware that the national NAACP is considering to sponsor our Post.
                 
Wilmer’s Park: Post Architect Ricardo Hendi will contact Mr. Zimmerman at the Maryland-Capital Park and Planning Commission (PG P&P) tomorrow. Mr. Zimmerman is reviewing our proposal to operate Wilmer’s Park. 3rd V. Cmdr Eugene emphasized that Ricard should advise him if Mr. Zimmerman doesn’t respond or rely, with the intention of the Post 381 supporters contacting Mr. Zimmerman on our behalf.

Post 381 Annex: Mr. Hendi will be the architect and designer. He will draw a contract between his company, Amirse, and Post 381.
1st V.Cmdr Turner made a motion to give Mr. Hendi the first installment of $5,000.00 so Mr. Hendi can start the next step, which includes getting bids on different aspects of the project. MSP. 1st V.Cmdr Turner said that after writing this check, there will be $95,000.00 balance remaining from the bond account.
1st V.Cmdr Turner made a motion for Mr. Hendi to get three bids for the building. MSP.
1st V.Cmdr Turner will ensure that the Marlton Golf Club will add $500.00 to the gaming cash drawer/register tomorrow.

Old Business:  none.

For the Good of the Post: Cmdr Fisher went through a check-list with the Post’s commitments to Marlton Golf Club, and The Marlton’s commitments to the Post. The Post and Marlton agreed on the status of each item.

Next meeting will be Monday, August 20, at 7:30pm, at the Post 381 Annex, 9413 Midland Turn, Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
